Review - Great mom & pop sushi place with great prices. Best sushi in town bar none - love the spider roll! The boyfriend and I love to be able to bring our own drinks since most Japanese restaurants don't have a good selection of beer...

Review - This is a small place, the kind they have in Japan. It's BYOB. If you know real sushi and want quality, this is the best place in Hoboken. The fish is the freshest. The place is really small, but it is cozy and the people I come across whenever I eat there are a great mix .

Review - I can't believe I just found Ubu! Don't judge this place from its looks (it actually looks like a typical sushi place in Japan...small, quiet, no bells and whistles). After reading the reviews on Kannekt (which I honestly was a bit skeptical), I was so surprised with the quality of the sushi here. First off, the night we were there, the sushi chef and hostess were both Japanese - unlike other sushi restaurants in Hoboken. The sushi chef really knew what he was doing...topping each piece w/ a special sauce that was so tasty that I didn't even use my soy sauce (again, very Japanese). I would choose rolls that a bit more flavorful as the more simple ones tend to be a bit on the bland side (but still good). The sushi rice had the right texture, too. Definitely not a place if you're looking for a fun/trendy ambiance...but definitely a reco if you're looking for just good sushi. It's my new favorite sushi restaurant in Hoboken!

Review - Great food - awesome rolls. Sushi portions are small and limited but very good. Sometimes it feels like the fish is a little warm. But it is very fresh and delicious. BYOB . One of the best in hoboken.. Food - 40/50 Decor - 40/50 Customer Service - 50/50 Reviewed by - joe22 (2007-02-01 )

Review - I stopped by UBU on a nice Sunday afternoon....great service. Very friendly. Started off with a standard salad - it was very tasty. The Sushi chef recommended the Toro - and WOW. The best Toro I've ever tasted. Melt in your mouth, amazing, delicious fatty tuna. Yum. Then - got some Eel.....why in the world is it so hard to find a place in Hoboken that serves WARM eel??? Every place I've been to serves cold eel, or lukewarm at best. The eel was good, but if served warm, would have been much better. Wasn't so crazy about the spicy tuna roll. But overall - I'd go back to Ubu.

Review - Great little sushi restaurant! The food is fresh and tasty; the service is great and the price is extremely reasonable and much cheaper than the other sushi restaurants in town. Great value for the money.

Review - Great food at great price, but ordering can be a very frustrating process unless you speak Japanese (especially for deliveries). Cashier/waitress is not knowledgeable at all and barely understands English, let alone speak it. If you are fluent in Japanese and extremely patient, good food at bargain price.

Review - By far the best sushi in Hoboken, Volcano Roll and Hoboken Yaki Roll are addicting and amazing. The price so reasonable that you can afford to bring a really expensive bottle of wine for the evening! You wont be dissapointed!

Review - Ubu is without a doubt the best sushi restaurant in Hoboken and one of my favorite sushi restaurants anywhere. It is a simple, small and intimate restaurant with a friendly chef and staff. If you go there often, the chef will soon remember your name and greet you whenever you arrive. Plus, it is BYOB and very affordable so you can eat the best fresh sushi in town, drink and not break the bank. There is simply no better place in Hoboken for dinner than Ubu.

Review - Ubu is a great little resto, nice atmosphere and personal service(when it's not busy like a bee hive). Right across the street from a bigger sushi BAR. I'd recommend having ur drinks at the bar across the street and then getting your fill @ Ubu..OR just BYOB (^_~). The Chef(owner) is Jay. Very nice guy and so are his staff. I'd recommend the Toroyaki or the Hobokenyaki roll...MmMmMmMm. Shashimi is pretty good too. FRESH! Anywho, I'v been a customer of their's since '99 and I still keep on coming back bringing along friends or guests everytime. Have fun! Eat well! Be Happy!! (^_^)

Review - Surprised to see this wasn't an editor's pick. The ambience is simple, but the sushi compares favorably with some of the best sushi houses in Manhattan. This is Hoboken's best kept secret.

Review - I've been to Ubu's for lunch and dinner for the past 3 years and have never been disappointed in the quality of the sushi or the service. Even when I didn't realize it was BYOB they served me saki on the house. I've eaten at other sushi restaurants in Hoboken - Robongi, Maru, Sushi Lounge, but none compare to Ubu's superb, savory selection of fish.

Review - First off, the food is excellent! They lose 2 points for the small beverage menu. BYOB is cool though. If you sit up at the bar and make good with the chef, he hooks you up! Extra pieces of sushi is always welcome on my plate. He'll ask you what you like best and make something special with your favorite fish. Menu selection is above average and the prices are just right. The atmosphere is cozy, quiet and just right for people who like to relax and enjoy conversation. There is a larger sushi place right across the street- it has good food but it's geared for more of a hang-out type crowd (full bar, DJ, and a lot more people) If you like excellent sushi and enjoy quiet surroundings and great service, Ubu takes first place.
