You know I never thought about using that closed off space. What's the point of closing it off in the first place? Is there a bunch of pipes or wires up there? I guess it's aesthetics.

Yes you can do a mini attic.
Some bedrooms have actually some beams going around (these are the bedrooms were they put a ceiling instead of leaving the exposed concrete) But you can still build it although you don't get the full space. |

How about a dungeon?
Rent it out to S&M types for extra income. |

# 13 - if you dont have anything useful to contribute, then don't.
My brother who is an architect pointed out that I could use the space above the ceiling in the bathrooms and kitchen. Will need to add board above the ceiling for the stuff to sit and and for the weight to hold. Just dont know if the building will approve it....... |

Your architect brother should have mentioned to you a couple drawbacks to doing this too. One is the already mentioned wiring and conduits.
bathroom: assuming that the access to this space is open to the bathroom itself, if the bathroom is not well-ventilated (without windows this is all too likely), moisture could collect with concerns for mildew etc. kitchen: if you store cloth or other air-trapping materials, unless they are well sealed or cooking rarely occurs, cooking odors can permeate items that you store there |

#15 -- No need to get mired in minutia and certainly no need for you to attack someones brother.
Anybody can figure out that there will be wiring and pipes above the ceiling - you are not a genius for pointing that out. Additionally I dont plan on storing clothes or anything that will be affected by mildew. |

Pardon me, how is that attacking someone's brother?
I have to honestly wonder with that sort of response why you are even soliciting opinions on an open discussion board. |
