Review - My first experience at Elysian was for brunch the day they started serving it and I was very pleased. Some weeks later, I checked out dinner a few days after they launched the menu and they offer a great typical French selection but I think in some areas the food may have room for improvement. Crabcakes were good but not spectacular and I ordered the duck risotto and found the risotto to be bland and flour-y tasting, although it had a nice texture. The roquefort overpowered the delicate taste of the duck but wasn't too bad. The chocolate mousse and specialty drinks were delicious but I would like to see more selections of wine-by-the-glass if possible. The decor, music and atmosphere (sometimes loud) were perfect and the service was impeccable. Elysian has the potential to become the It bar/restuarant in town if it hasn't already reached that spot in the month or so it has been open. I am looking forward to returning!

Review - This is by far my favorite restaurant in Hoboken. The onion soup is to die for as well as the steak sandwhich and the chicken with olive sauce. They pour an excellent Bordeaux by the glass and are not cheap with it either. My new hot spot in Hoboken!!

Review - This is my favorite restaurant on this side of the river. The duck confit, pot au feu, pate, pot du creme, all to die for. I could eat there once a week and never get bored. It's relaxed, beautiful, as close to perfection as a restaurant gets in my book.

Review - I have eaten at Elysian Cafe three or four times and enjoyed drinks there on occasions separate from food. Service is very friendly and competent. The food has generally been a home run (fitting for its location at the birthplace of baseball). My 45/50 for food is rated against the finest meals that I ever had. For normal life -- it's a 49. Cuisine -- French, and very true to form based on what I recently had on a two-week vacation in Paris & environs. The 1/2 bottle of house bordeaux is a bargain for the money. Sophisticated, friendly, polite, well maintained (clean!), warm, wonderful owner/manager, great staff ... And, 100% SMOKE FREE (even at the bar)!! What more is you lookin' for? Trust me -- eat here. Often. You'll like it.

Review - Friends and I went to the Elysian for dinner on a Wednesday night. Before being seated we sat at the bar for some very nice glasses of wine. The atmosphere in the front of the restaurant was very pleasing. The decor was beautiful and elegant while being comfortable and inviting. Once we were seated, our waitress was very helpful and knowlegdable. She even allowed one of my friends to order off the menu because she is a 'picky' eater. I had the French Onion soup as an appetizer and the Salmon as a main course. I was very pleased with both of my selections. I can't wait to go back and try the duck with Risotto... it sounds delicious. I definitely think Elysian is worth going to!

Review - The restaurant (both inside and out)looks great. We had a very nice, and helpful waitress. But the food really needs work. French onion soup was good. We both had it. But the lobster role was a disaster - no flavor, the meat was wet -like it had been pulled from the lobster and dumped on the role. Although the fries were terrific. My friends chicken was passable but not much flavor their either. I would try the brunch though -its hard to mess up eggs and pancakes. Also a burger went by our table that looked good. But that was not on our menu so my guess is the bar menu is different. I would go back but not for the food. At least not right away.

Review - What were they thinking with those blue lights? Could that color possibly flatter anyone? Or any dish of food, for that matter? Speaking of food, hope you're not too hungry. Bread isn't served unless asked for and then it's some insipid dry roll - when Hoboken has the some of best bakery bread on the East coast. In a word, inexcusable. My waitress didn't know what the moules frites were until I tranlated to mussels and fries, yet they bill themselves as a French bistro. 10 mussels make a nice appetizer but hardly a dinner. Oh yea, there is no bread to soak up the sauce. Fries pretensiously served in oh-so-cute little cups were clearly the commercial frozen type served with plain old Heinz rather than an interesting aoili. Main courses were acceptable but strangely either overly salty or bland. Desert was forgettable. As for smoking, Send the polluters out to huddle on the corner - I don't want them stinking up my meal. Well, at least it isn't yet another outdated fern bar trying to be hip for the suburan kids who trek here on the weekends. Now if Gene would only learn what real city dwellers want perhaps we can save some money on schlepping into the city for a decent dinner and spend it here.

Review - Great atmosphere and a nice addition to Hoboken as an upscale bar. The food however, needs some work. I was in a dinner party of 6 and only about half of us liked our entrees. The bar menu seemed to get the best reviews - the lobster roll, calamari, and the burger. The steak frites, risotto, and several of the appetizers got complaints. I would try it again though... it's still early.

Review - I was impressed with the atmosphere and decor, and the service was fantastic. The food was very good, not great. Portions are very small and not very filling. Drinks were good, dessert was okay, nothing to write home about. Nice addition to the Hoboken dining scene.

Review - Exactly what Hoboken needed. A sophisticated and stylish NYC style bistro and bar for the more mature crowd. Now I just hope the Madison / Citry Bistro crowd does not discover it and claim it as their own!

Review - Not family friendly. I cannot review the food, though it smelled delicious. I cannot fully attest to the decor, though the atmosphere felt authentic-bistro (save for the big bar tvs) as I was never seated. The hostess informed us that the 1 or 2 highchairs that they had were being used, and other customers, already seated with children perched on their laps, were next in line for available highchairs. I cannot imagine that those poor parents enjoyed their meals as fully as they may have, had the restaurant been able to provide better accomodations to these families.

Review - It is now my favorite resturant west of Manhattan. It shows how far Hoboken has come.I will be regular. Have had two stellar experiences.

Review - My husband and I loved everything about this place. Our waiter was very helpful in offering suggestions about the appetizers and entrees, and we took him up on his wonderful suggestions. The mussels should not be missed, and the short ribs and pork tenderloin are near perfection. The owner was courteous and helpful as well. One of the best restaurants in Hoboken.
