Review - Count Lua at or near the top of what hoboken has to offer. First off, this place has a great location with near-perfect views of NYC. Didn't get a chance to have a drink at the bar, but it is very awkwardly layed out and I was not impressed. I feel like they did not give enough thought to the layout of the bar area - or the whole place in general. It is a nice size bar, but the decor is modern but bland and kind of cheesy. The interior is much better in the restaurant and it seems like you are in a totally different place, thankfully. The food at Lua is very good. A few things were only okay, but overall this was a very good meal from start to finish (but definitely at NYC prices). Service was very good as well. This is my biggest complaint though - that after a great meal at a nice restaurant like Lua you should not have to maneuver your way through a packed bar crowd. The crowd was even packed around the restaurant host station - this just gets back to my point of them not thinking through the layout of the whole place. They need ot manage this better. Overall though, great night, great food, and will definitely be back for dinner.

Review - I had a pretty good meal here overall-save one entree among 4 of us- I got completely raw fish, and its not the type of fish like Tuna you should ever serve seared. It was a busy saturday night, but the service was truly atrocious. I took forever (and three verbal reminders) to get our bottle of wine- which is about the last thing a profitible restaurant can afford to do. LET THEM DRINK fellas. The main courses took so long that we were itching to get out of there and didn't consider dessert. This was partially because in an annoying nod to style over substance, the chairs are quite uncomfortable- they sit about 9 inches off the floor, so if you are at all tall, you will be uncomfortable while you are waiting 40 minutes for your drinks. But I can't lie, the food, save the undercooked fish, was very good. I recommend tha massive pork shank. But I won't go back unless they can get me off the floor and into a booth. Decor is great.

Review - I go to Lua often with my girlfriends (usually Saturday night) and I must admit that we love it! There is something about this restaurant/lounge that makes you want to come back for more! For the single gals out there looking for some quality people-this is the only place in Hoboken to find it! As for the menu selection -ceviche & three bean hummus is amazing and if your in the mood for an exotic drink the luatini is off the charts! Staff was friendly and food presentation was a work of art. Overall great experience, in my opinion if you have children-wouldn't recommend it, its purely an adult atmosphere with adult cuisine.

Review - I made reservations to eat at Lua on Saturday not knowing they were having the St.Patricks day parade. I expected to find chaos and delays but was pleasantly surprised. We arrived to find the valet parking at our service. We were let in by a doorman and quickly seated. There were no unruly patrons nor was it overcrowded. We also had the opportunity to meet the chef who was as interested in knowing about us as we were about him and the restaurant. The guacamole was delicious as were the scallops and spanish sausage we had for appetizers. The main dishes were great and the dessert superb. There was a scheduled brazilian show at 10pm by the bar. I definitely recommend this restuarant. The view is excellent and so is the service.

Review - Went there with my boyfriend on Sat night dinner. The service was impeccable! I felt like we were the only table in the place. The prices are right in line with what you'd expect for a trendy-upscale place like that, somewhat pricey, but you certainly get your full money's worth. The menu is unique-South American flare-- and offers a wide variety of items. Most importantly, the food is excellent! For drinks--highly recommend the Luapolitan and the mojito. The decor is awesome...they did a great job with the place. I'm not a fan of NYC-wanna-be trendy type places to hang out for the night, so personally, I wouldn't want to stay long after dinner, but overall I definitely give rave reviews to this place!

Review - I recently went to Lua on a Saturday nite. I must say it was very impressive. We went for a late dinner & enjoyed drinks by the bar afterwards. Food was excellent & very flavorful. Skirt steak was unbelievable. Crab croquettes-only gave you 4 small pieces, but was delicious. Seems like it was the hot spot as the bar became overcrowded.Seemed like the bar was too big and not enuff room to stand around with friends...but overall, GREAT!

Review - My husband and i visited the bar on a thur. night it was packed with fun beautiful people. just what hoboken needs..in this dreary town....not very many trendy upscale bars!! WE had a great time and enjoyed our drinks in the cozy dimly lit bar area. they need to turn up the music though....you can barely hear the tunes! highly recommended...

Review - As expected, Lua has raised the bar for Hoboken and the surrounding area. Have been there 2x and each time has been full of good looking people, great food and an excellent staff, all of which will only get better with time. Great job, thanks, we will enjoy this one for years to come!!!!!!!!

Review - Went to Lua on opening weekend and was not surprised at all the owner of Lua also owns City Bistro in Hoboken and I've been a faithful Bistro guy for years and I wasn't expecting nothing but the best on all aspects of the new restaurant. The ambiance is very high end NYC restaurant as well as lounge. The service is excellent and the crowd was very good looking for both males as well as females. Not pretentious at all usually you go to a very trendy spot and you get a cold shoulder from people not here every one has a great time and smile on their face even the bartenders and servers.
Highly Reccommend you visit Lua in Hoboken NJ....

Review - Lua is a great NEW place in Hoboken, something we needed. Food and service was very good- top 3 in Hoboken. I'm sure the reasons for having to get through the crowd at this place is because Hoboken has a limited selection of restaurants/lounges, think about it -population is closed to 60,000 in a square mile plus all the out of towners we get, what do you expect? Whoever the owners are, THANKS for another restaurant and a good one at that!

Review - Been to lua twice now, dinner once. The food is decent and service good. As far as a night spot goes, very overcrowded in the bar section with no designated standing room. I don't get the set up.....the bar takes upabout 85% of the main room.....all in all, iwould recomend coming in for dinenr on an off night but if you're looking to go out with friends on a friday/saturday night....not the place

Review - This place is chic and has a downtown feel but is very expensive: 3 tiny bowls of ceviche for $25 was one special, and they actually charge $10 for chips and guacomole. Dinner entrees were just okay. Tiny piece of tuna and not very spicey as advertised. The red snapper presented nice and was fresh but rather dull. Drinks are priced over $10.

Review - Who designed the bar in this place. The bartenders have more room than the patrons. You spend the whole night moving out of peoples way or getting pushed around. Pray you dont have to go to the restroom, will take about 1/2 hour. The VIP room is a waste. 250 per bottle is just not worth it, especially when you are closed off from seeing the entire bar.

Review - Lua is a big fish in a little sea! Since this place is located in a place where everyone is the same, it gets good reviews. The food is not bad, although the portions are small, the bar is entirely too big and you can't move or breathe. The view is great and the location is great.

Review - Have been to lua a few times on the weekends and finally decided to try dinner there. Made 8:30 reservations, but when we got ther ewas told it was going ot be a half hour wait, which was annoying but bearable....we wre finally seated at after 9:30, and when we were we found a bunch of empty table all over the restaurant, which was especially frustrating. THe food was good, and the waiter was also very good, but the wait almost ruimed the night.

Review - Awesome place! Haven't eaten there yet, but I'm looking forward to doing so. Draws a good bar crowd (unlike the downtown frat party scene you get further down Washinton St). I really do not like the layout of the bar at all. Whoever planned that space was not thinking apparently. I'd rather go there to eat, because the bar gets tooooooo crowded to even move around and enjoy yourself!

Review - I went to Lua for the first time with my boyfiend on Friday night- we had an 8:30 reservation and they did not seat us until 9:10!! I expressed my frustration by adressing the hostess her response was nothing but rude. when she finally did seat us she didnt offer an apology for the wait. If you are not going to seat guests on time or within a 10 minute time frame do not take reservations. Overall the food was good and the wait service was also very good. In order for me to go back they need to get their timing right and maybe hire a more professional hostess!

Review - Lua is by far the best restaurant/lounge in Hoboken. The layout and decor is elegant with a NY Flair. The owners and staff are wonderfully pleasant, and the service is impeccable. The ambiance of the view and atmosphere sets the standard for whats yet to come. If you have not visited the Lua Lounge, you've settled for the next best thing!!

Review - There is nothing like this place in NJ at all, not even close. The service is excellent, the bartenders are excellent! And I mean excellent the entire week. The food is excellent, the wait staff is excellent and the look is excellent. I don't mean to sound over excited but you should check it out to see yourself. It has anything a nyc restaurant/lounge would offer except you can smoke. Very nice job.

Review - Finally went to Lua, atmosphere was great. I thought the menu was lacking variety. Perhaps they can incorporate just 1 pasta dish with fish or shell fish. The crab croquettes were very tiny and mini crab cakes not croquettes. I will go back but the food didn't impress me, I will definitely hang out in the bar though.
