Review - I've been here twice. Once for a light dinner and once for brunch after going to the spa near there. the crabcakes and their soups are delicious. The salads are light and lovely and wonderful with the sesame crackers. The service was decent. However, I'm pretty sure they could be a little quicker with the food. And, as for the above statement about Newport residents having reserved tables. I feel that that is un-necessary and actually rather snobby. Just because you live there, doesn't mean you should have your own tables.

Review - Best of the three in the chain. Excellent space, great decor.. I went on a slow night (thurs) early. Service was top notch. Silverware changed 4 times..Excellent. Catered to my young daughter and made the experience very comfortable. Inexpensive unpublished kids menu. Crab cakes were spectacular as well as the black linguine with shrimp, mussels and clams, ample portion and worth the 16.95 price tag. Fresh breads and excellent Retro Chocolate cake. Adequate wine list, a better selction would have been preferred. For dinner go early. Bar area is well baffled to keep the noise away from the dining area. Free indoor valet parking is also a major plus for this area. Also, about 1000 feet from the Pavonia path. Ideal location. Best new restaurant in the area. Ask for Table 62 sit back and enjoy the views :)

Review - I used to be a regular; the food's good, but the service is awful. The last time I went my check had another table's drinks on it, and on top of that I was overcharged for an appetizer. I told the Maitre D about the error, and he simply said that sometimes the prices change. I wanted to leave 10 dollars too little and say that sometimes my payment changes So if you go there, ask if the prices on the menu are current-- or if they've changed.

Review - The shellfish and crab cakes at South City Grill are excellent. Indeed, all the food is significantly above average. Only problem: first-rate food and service draw customers from outside the Newport/Towers of America community, which means you MUST make reservations on the weekends (drop-ins expect to wait 20 minutes). Suggestion: the management should reserve a few tables for the exclusive use Newport/TOA residents.

Review - I find several reviews a little tainted here... I have been to South City Grill in Jersey City 3 times and every moment there was excellent... the service was very attentive and I had a manager purposely spill drinks all over himself because the tray of beverages he was about to serve us was about to fall on my girlfriend and the guy slammed the tray into himself... he then said sorry and ran into his office and changed... I was amazed.... I have never seen that before... he laughed about it afterward and said he's not good with trays and keeps extra clothes just for those moments... I have owned several restaraunts and never had a member of my staff do that... talk about catering to your guest... and his whole attitude was a simple... it's my job.
The food was great and the pricing was appropriate... as far as Newport Residents go... who the hell are they??? their prices aren't NYC because that's where my restaraunts were and their bathrooms are immaculate... a very important aspect to a good restaraunt... the service was amazing all around and the decor is fantastic... I highly reccommend

Review - The food and decor are great. Excellent fresh fish. The service sucks!! The servers are not enthusiastic at all, take forever to bring the food and like to keep refilling the wine glasses so that you buy more wine.

Review - This is a beautiful place, but the food is way below average. The coconut shrimp appetizer was dreadful. The tuna entree I had was so-so, and my husband's $50 Kobe filet, which was the Chef's special that day, was just okay. Nothing about the food is outstanding, especially considering the prices. I wish the restaurants in Newport would realize that charging NYC prices doesn't equal great food. Service wasn't great either.
