Review - I have been a relatively steady customer since this charming neighborhood spot opened. Great coffee and breakfast treats (muffins, bagels, etc.) plus a pleasant dining space make it the perfect place to read the paper and enjoy your java before heading to the office. Full breakfasts (eggs, etc.) are also available. There is also a very nice lunch menu as well. They do a brisk lunch business, and a very active takeout service both for breakfast and lunch.

My wife and I ocassionally have supper here, after work, in the early evening. Dim ligthing, candles, and pleasant background music add to the relaxed atmosphere. The menu is limited, but all items are excellent, and the price is right. Thy have no liquor license, so its byob, or they will offer you a generous glass of red or white wine.

The market half of the Beechwood enterprise offers a sophisitcated, but nicely priced, selection of gifts -- food products, tableware, glasses, soaps, oils, etc.

A welcome addition to the ever increasingly popular Grove Street City. Beechwood is the new Jersey City!

Review - You can tell from a block away that you are in for a great experience when you look at Beechwood Cafe. Situated on a slightly acute angled lot, the design and spaciousness of the decore is only enhanced by the ample amount of light streaming in through its dozen or so windows. It reminds me of the open air waterfront restuarants of Sydney. I do hope Beechwoods spill out in the warmer months onto the sidewalks with tables and chairs. But even if they don't the ample light and warm interior will give you the same sensation. The service was quick and professional. The food was exceptional as well. I am not particularly knowledgeable about coffee, but I do know from my years in Seattle that you can have a terrible cup of coffee and still bring people in with your warm and inviting ambiance. Now the coffee in Beechwood was excellent, combined with the great ambiance and friendly service makes for one of the best little cafes I have ever been in anywhere.

And to think these people have been open for only 3 weeks. Imagine what I'll say when they get rolling. Once they get their wireless connectivity setup I imagine they'll pull more than a few patrons away from their local competition. Kudos Beechwood, you are doing a great job.

Review - I love this place. The decor, quality and service are superb. The houseware items in the market are adorable and make the dining experience more interesting. The other night, I had dinner there with a couple of neighbors and they served us complimentry wine on the house. The food was excellent and overall, it was one of the best dining experiences in JC ever for me.

Review - My husband and I spotted the Beechwood while having lunch across the street. Wish we had found it sooner! We checked out the adorable market and had coffee. The desserts were tempting, but we were stuffed. I wanted to buy all the housewares - very unique and pretty. I loved everything about this place - the decor, the service, the coffee, the products. Even the bathroom is very cool, and there is a great photo of what the building used to look like. Hubby and I plan to return to walk around the neighborhood, have lunch at Beechwood and perhaps start our Christmas shopping early. Best wishes for a successful business. Deb and Dan from Maywood

Review - One beautiful Sunday afternoon, we decided to try out this restaurant for brunch. The place wasn't crowded at all, so the host seated us inside. After 20 minutes of waiting for a server (they were all standing around), we walked out...

We gave it another try; this time on a busy Sunday afternoon. First, the server took over 10 minutes to even come and asked us what we wanted; while waiting for our food, our waiter actually asked us if we needed anything else. Considering we didn't get the food yet, we were just happy that he even noticed us. We ordered a toasted bagel with cream cheese and lox, and Eggs Benedict. The Eggs Benedict came after over 20 minutes, and the Bagel came 15 minutes after the Eggs...

Review - The brunch there is pretty good, but they have this weird thing about not being able to do anything with Eggs. They can't make an egg white omlet. And if you ask for a fried egg with your corned beef hash, they say the kitchen won't do it.

And you can't get lunch stuff at brunch time for some reason.

Oh, the cookies are just awful. They taste bland, more like playdoh than a cookie.

Service there is always entertaining. I mean that the waitstaff forgets orders, introduces themselves to you several times, and will either ignore you completely or ask how you are doing every two minutes, without delivering the diet coke you asked for. If the food weren't good, I would go elsewhere.

Overall, I like what Beechwood is trying to do and will go back there. But they do need to work on a few things.

Review - My friends and I stumbled upon Beechwood Cafe after dinner to get some coffee and dessert. We were impressed by the decor, products and food selection. However, the service was too slow and we were unhappy on how the staff was treating us during our visit.
All in all, Beechwood has great decor, ambiance, products. Not great on service.
